ArcelorMittal loses anti-pollutionsuit |
ArcelorMittal- the world’s largest manufacturers of steel recently lost a suit in which it challenged the air pollution rules in the European Union. EU’s Luxembourg General Court rejected a challenge suit to region’s climate change policy.
It its suit ArcelorMittal appealed that the rules discriminate steel
makers by excluding other industries like those of aluminium, and
chemicals which may have even higher emissions.
In its judgment the court stated that the applicant failed to prove
that the rules were unfair treatment to worlds steel maker and rejected
company’s damage claim. ArcelorMittal after cutting its output by 50
per cent and removing a large number of its employees had challenged
the 2003 legislation of EU that capped the emission of carbon divide
from the factories and power plants.
